The design developer of the new Bice restaurant is Klein Dytham architecture that was established in Tokyo by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham in 1991. It is a fully bilingual office specializing in architecture, interiors and furniture design.
Taking the best from east and west, KDa aims to fuse different cultures effortlessly. The practice has no recipes, working with the client's program and all the other project parameters of the project to develop a unique but above all an appropriate solution that is fun and a pleasure to experience.
Materials, color, humor, and technology are all key elements of the work of KDa. Being based in Tokyo, with the Japanese thirst for newness ever present, their work is always fresh and challenging. KDa continuously searches for new approaches, which embody the moment, it is not afraid of the now!
In 1993 KDa won the Kajima Space Design Award for best young practice in Japan. Their building for Idee won both the Asahi Glass Design Award and the National Panasonic Design Award in 1996. In 1998 their interior for a new information Center at British Council won a national award for best library.
Last year the Architectural Review, one of the worlds leading architectural magazines awarded KDa 'Emerging Practice of the Year' in their annual ar+d competition, which received over 700 entries from 50 countries. This along with several other awards and press coverage has led to a high international profile for the office.
Definetly the best choice to design a contemporary but out of the short lasing fashion, Bice in this project was looking for a designer that was going to be able to understand the needs and cooperate in order to create a status of renovation without losing our history. |
